History
Since colours made their entry in International Cricket, Indian Cricket Team has chosen blue as their primary colour and you have seen the team sporting one or the other shade of blue. The blue colour in team India uniform has earned them the nickname of "Men in Blue". With the advent of the World Series Cup in the 1970s, each team was to don a primary and secondary colour on their uniforms. The Indian team elected to wear light-blue as their primary colour and yellow as their secondary colour.

The journey of Indian Cricket Team Jersey
It all began with humble beginning in light blue with light stripes and the time was mid eighties.

Early 90s saw Indian team cricket jersey change to dark blue with multicolored shoulder stripes. But this change of colour did not change India's fortune and the team didn't do well in the 1992 world cup as well as the series against South Africa.

India again changed the colour of its jersey to light blue with India written on yellow base in the mid 90s. India played in this kit in the 1996 world cup, which saw Sri Lanka emerge as world cup champions.

In 1999 Indian cricket team jersey extensively used yellow although blue was the dominant colour. Yellow is considered auspicious for the Indian cricket team and it appeared on this jersey in the form of diagonal yellow stripes.

In 2003 the colours of the Indian flag became very prominent on Indian cricket team jersey. However, for the first time we saw a patch of black appearing on it. Sahara decided to replace the Sahara logo on the jerseys with the Aamby Valley tag on the sleeve. India this year it to the finals of World Cup against Australia in Johannesburg, South Africa.

In 2007, the Indian cricket jersey didn't change much but yes the tricolour extended from the shoulders till the hem of the jersey. This jersey was lucky for Sachin as he scored the first double century in the history of One Day Cricket.

It was the dark blue jersey with tri-colour on the sides that brought India luck as the team won the 2011 world cup. Later three stars were added  The bleed blue jersey symbolising the victory in 1983 WC, 2007 T20 WC and 2011 WC.

The 2015 Indian cricket team jersey has seen a major change Sahara logo is replaced by Star India, the official sponsor of the Indian cricket team now.

The new new kit is reported to 100% polyester and is made out of an average of 33 recycled plastic bottles. The lines drawn in the front are said to represent the 24 lines in the Ashok Chakra.

  2. There was also this horrendous-looking jersey for the 2012 world t20, with a badly drawn tricolour on the left shoulder. Thankfully it had a short life.
